I can tell\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0you from personal experience not all of it is good. Definitely spit not swallow.<\/p>\n<p>The vineyards are open all of the year round so we just pick up the phone and make a RDV for a tasting. Having\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0done this\u00a0 for at least 5 years I have quite a list of vineyards to visit now.<\/p>\n<p>During the winter many of the larger towns in the region hold a wine fair. A beautiful old Priory in a suburb of Tours.<\/p>\n<p>This was where the AOC Touraine (L\u2019Appellation d\u2019Origine Contr\u00f4l\u00e9e) were celebrating their 80 years.<\/p>\n<p>Entry is free BUT you need a <em>verre \u00e0 degustation. (You get to keep the glass). I am building up quite a collection.<\/p>\n<p>There were 28 producers offering their wine. Many of them with between 4 and 6 different wines to taste. It is impossible to taste them all. There were one or two producers there whom we knew. We went and said hello then choose those we did not know to taste.<\/p>\n<p>We ended up tasting 5.<\/p>\n<p>The primary red varieties of the region are, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. C\u00f4t more commonly known as Malbec and Gamay.<\/p>\n<p>The primary white varieties are, Sauvignon blanc and Chenin blanc (known locally as Pineau de la Loire).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5374\" src=\"https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3978-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3978-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3978-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3978-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3978-450x600.jpg 450w, https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3978.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our favourite of the day was from a small 4 hectares called Domaine de La Tonnellerie, near Amboise. The producer Monsieur<em> Vincent P\u00e9quin.\u00a0 <\/em>\u00a0He only grows two varieties, but he treats them with great respect.<\/p>\n<p>He produces white wines using Chenin. A lovely crisp dry white and using the same variety from the same\u00a0<em>parcel of land but leaving it longer, a delicious slightly sweet white to drink as an apero.\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>With his C\u00f4t he produces a delicious, slightly oaky, but smooth and full-bodied red.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5387\" src=\"https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3995-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"179\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3995-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3995-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3995-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3995-450x600.jpg 450w, https:\/\/loire-gite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/166\/2019\/11\/IMG_3995.jpg 1536w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 179px) 100vw, 179px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This small vineyard produces quality not quantity. Vincent is a charming guy. Doug and I are going to visit his Domaine soon. I don\u2019t think the 6 reds we bought will last till Christmas.<\/p>\n<p>We had a wonderful morning tasting local wines.
