LA MAISON DE MAITRE, LOIRE GITE

…WELCOMES YOU.

Hey everyone! Can you believe it’s been two decades since I worked as a Special Needs Co-Ordinator and Doug was a Highway Engineer? Well, after a lovely holiday in France and getting inspired by the way others did it, we thought, “Why not?” So, in 2002, we decided to take the plunge and make the move to France.

The beginning of this adventure? A seriously cheap RyanAir flight—maybe £1 for a return ticket? It set the stage for what was to come.

Fast forward to 2004, and we stumbled upon La Bourjonnerie—a property with two houses, land, and a bunch of barns. We spruced up the second house, later named La Maison de Maître, Loire Gite, after some renovations.

By October 2004, overcoming hiccups, we were settled—with two horses, two cats, and a dog, arriving at different times!

Come mid-2005, La Maison de Maître, Loire Gite was ready. My cousins gave the gite a test run.

Back in the day, holiday rentals were different. Internet? Hardly any. No one even thought about it! Plus, there weren’t many gîtes for rent either.

Nowadays, we’ve got this fantastic 5-bedroom gite that sleeps 8, with a heated pool, a garden, WIFI, and a big welcome for your four-legged friends.

So, if you’re on the lookout for privacy, peace and quiet, a spot for a family reunion, or a venue for a big celebration, La Maison de Maitre, Loire Gite is for you.

Our home is a Longere, 87 steps from one kitchen to another, and no, it doesn’t overlook the gite. Our daughter, Laura, runs her equestrian business, actively in showjumping during the summer. She’s also into a pony breeding program. Our first foal arrived on May 4, 2022.(May The Forth Be With You) Oh, and we have a charming colt pony who debuted at a show in Summer 2022.

With our crew of horses at 12 and one more on the way, plus five cats, two dogs, and four chickens, life at La Bourjonnerie is lively.

We’re near Chatillon sur Indre (36), just 25 minutes from Loches (37), and 35 minutes from Zoo Beauval, the number one zoo in France. Plus, we’re within 50 minutes of the Loire’s vineyards and châteaux. Check our digital guide for details.

Tip: Book directly through our website for the best price—no extras, no hidden costs. Got requirements? Give us a shout. Over the years, we’ve welcomed guests worldwide, and we’d love to welcome you, your family, and friends in 2024. Cheers to making memories! 🌟

Additional information

The gite is set in a rural setting.  Hence a car is necessary.

In the summer we are surrounded by the growing crops. We accept up to two dogs free of charge but we do ask that you pick up after them and do not allow them upstairs, on the furniture or in the pool area. As you can see from the photos the garden from the gite is enclosed. Perfect for younger children and your four legged companion.

There are many local routes to take a stroll ranging from 30 mins to 2 hours. All off road and you will see much of our local wildlife. Walk or cycle you chose.

There are also many places to fish. Local Maires will sell you a fishing permit either by the day or the week.
